One runner's perspective on the Keweenaw Trail Running Festival
...The terrain varied: roots, rocks and... well, steep, steeper, and steepest. I passed Leonidas on a steep. He passed me on a steepest. I passed him again on a steep. And so on. We climbed 1,260 feet. It was hard. I was relieved to see red flags, tall grass, and a volunteer pointing up an incline toward the parking lot adjacent to the main lodge. "Two hundred yards and turn left to the finish," he said. I heard, "Two hundred yards to the finish." The finish line wasn't where I thought it would be, but eventually, I ran across it...
And another's
...Only something like a rip-snorting thunder storm could improve Sunday morning's 25K run through the Keweenaw Mountains... The heavens opened and the rain came down... It was great!
And another's
...We passed the aid station again and started the second loop. The first is long and rectangular. The second, depending on how you look at it, is a wrinkled duck flying west, a hippie with curly hair and a beard, or Gertrude Stein. It's part of a maze of trails with names like Bear Chase, Rock'n Roll, French Annie, and Burma Road...
An account of another of Fast Eddie's mind-boggling performances: the Edmund Fitzgerald 100K race
...what a race and what incredibly BAD weather!!! Never have I experienced it this bad. Yes, I've run snowshoe marathons at -20, but I was ready and dressed for it. But not this frigid 30mph headwind all day! And in the dark at 5am for over 2 hours on snow and ice covered old roads with the temperature in the 20s... I wore gloves and mitt covers, 3 layers above the waist - including a wind breaker, but only tights and shorts below. That was a mistake!...
