UPRRC Race Sanctioning

Race Directors please read the Sanctioning Requirements and Race Recommendations listed below. These guidelines were developed by the UPRRC to help race organizers produce a quality and safe event.

RACE SANCTIONING REQUIREMENTS

  1. Race registration fee discount for UPRRC members of $2.00 or more provided for mail in and/or online race registration.
  2. Indicate UPRRC discount and logo, P.O. address, and website address on the race entry form and race website as applicable.

RACE RECOMMENDATIONS

  1. Provide accurate course measurement.  Hand held GPS may be used to provide an approximate distance, but is not sufficient for certified courses.  GPS measurement may be most effective for measuring trail runs.
  2. For safety, use arrows and/or people at critical intersections and corners.
  3. Establish an aid system for runners: water stops at least every three miles; standby ambulance/first responder, and a vehicle to follow the last runner.
  4. Conduct a safety briefing before the race summarizing course a including instructions regarding .traffic with cooperation of local police/public safety department.
  5. Report race results to UPRRC for publishing in Running Amuck and posting on the UPRRC website.
  6. Indicate whether your event is a competitive race with overall and/or age group awards (specify age groups and number of places) and all competitors are timed or that it is a recreational event without timing and/or place awards.
  7. In competitive races, require participants to complete the entire race under their own power to qualify for awards.
  8. If possible, encourage wheelchair competition and awards for that division.
